An account of the anti-Catholic riots which broke out in the Philadelphia suburb of Kensington during May of 1844, during which 9 people were killed, 20 wounded and 3 Catholic churches burned to the ground. Appended to the principal account is a 36 page description of the July riots in Southwark, another Philadelphia suburb, in which a Nativist mob attacked the parishioners of St. Philip’s Church, disbanded their militia, badly beat fleeing Catholics and set fire to the church.
